You'll need to write the reference designator special string to each footprint one-at-a-time while you iterate through the library. Another that is handy is 'Copy Board Outline'. The real utility of the provided scripts is to give a starting point for a script of your own. They're not really intended to be a collection of universal solutions to the problems of the world.
